Upcoming Meeting - American Association for Women in Community College

Members from the MCC community will lead discussions about the benefits of joining The American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC). The AAWCC focuses on “community service, scholarship opportunities for all students, and activities related to professional growth and development.”

Lady Scouts continue to soar!


MCC-Penn Valley Lady Scouts continue their winning streak. They beat Haskell Indian Nations 79 - 47 on Wednesday.

Several players also broke a few records in the process including:

Individual Record-Ejehi Ehovon, 13 offensive rebounds in a game (previous record held by: Hilary Walker, 11 offensive rebounds).

Team Records-Most rebounds in a game: 69. Previous record: 58 rebounds in a game, Year: 1995.

Tied with the 2005 defensive record for the most rebounds (37) in a game.

Check out the Lady Scouts tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they take on Cloud Community College. Also cheer them on at 6 p.m. on Monday when they play Ottawa University.

A. Fred Pohlman Shootout to be held at PV Thanksgiving weekend


Thanksgiving weekend is about more than big meals to basketball fans. It's also the weekend for the annual A. Fred Pohlman Shootout.

MCC-Penn Valley Men's and Women's basketball teams will host the areawide basketball tournament on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the gym.

The tournament is also a great opportunity to check out the Lady Scouts who are fresh off a 94 -55 victory from Saint Mary!

Freshman Ejehi Ehovon earned double-doubles with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Also, several players scored double digits:
Shekera Haynes, Freshman: 17 points
KeAla Jones, Sophomore: 15 points
Leah Smith, Sophomore: 15 points

So let's cheer on the Scouts and other local high school and college teams at the shootout this weekend!

Retreat for women vets to be held at MCC-Penn Valley


The U.S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau will sponsor a mini-retreat and stand down for women veterans on October 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MCC-Penn Valley. The event will offer free services such as: explanation of benefits and services by the Veteran's Administration; job search assistance; legal services, chair massages, clothing boutique, transportation and health screenings.

Continental breakfast, lunch and child care will also be available.

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver is also scheduled to be on hand for this first-ever event.

The stand down is designed to prevent homelessness among women veterans by providing access to information, resources and services.

The free event is open to all women who served in the military, in any branch and in any capacity and area supporters. Veterans and community supporters can register for this event by contacting Carla Tillmon at 816.285.7234 or by visiting www.kcwomenveterans.wordpress.com.

MCC-Penn Valley president takes time for student athletes


MCC-Penn Valley President Bernard Franklin recently chatted with men and women's basketball players about the responsibility of being scholars and athletes. Franklin praised the players for their hard work on the court and encouraged them to show the same diligence in the classroom.
