Dr. Fred Grogan honored by Lee's Summit Cares
MCC-Longview president Dr. Fred Grogan and 11 others in the Lee's Summit Community were honored Thursday morning at the Mayor's annual Character Breakfast.
The breakfast, sponsored by Lee's Summit Cares, highlights 11 major characteristics in individuals that make them a great asset to the community - such as their perseverance, courage, compassion, etc.
Grogan was honored for his kindness.
"Your modeling of good character makes you an excellent role model for youth and adults," Lee's Summit Cares director Roby Little said. "Your actions have helped to improve the well-being of others and make Lee’s Summit an excellent community in which to live."
Grogan was nominated by fellow faculty and and staff at MCC-Longview. In nominating Grogan, peers recalled the time when he personally mentored and helped one student struggling to leave an abusive situation and enter a college training program here on campus and start a new life.
"He not only opened his door to this student buy also opened his heart to ensure her success at MCC-Longview," the nomination read.
Also highlighted at the breakfast were MCC-Longview students Rezeena Umrani and Ryyan Umrani from the Islamic Society of Kansas City who offered the closing prayer to the event.
