MCC Notify Me Text Messaging Interruption

It is crucial that MCC students and employees receive information about a crisis or weather related closings as quickly as possible. As such, MCC recently established the MCC Notify Me text messaging system, upgrading our ability to send text messages to students and employees who subscribe to this free service.

However, MCC has just learned that particular cell phone carriers have begun blocking these text messages from reaching subscribers. As a result, MCC is exploring alternatives that will insure text messages reach all intended recipients. In the meantime, please continue checking any of these sources, where emergency and weather-closing information will also be posted:
  • your MCC e-mail
  • the MCC home page
  • MCC Alert web page
  • Blackboard
  • myMCCKC portal.
We apologize for any inconvenience and will provide you with an update as soon as we have additional information.

Call for help with the push of a button

MCC students, employees and visitors now have a way to call MCC police/public safety with the push of a single button. As part of ongoing district-wide efforts to ensure student and employee safety, the emergency preparedness task force implemented a reprogramming of one of the quick-dial buttons on every phone in the network (including employees' desk phones) to dial the MCC police/public safety control center.

In the event of an emergency, anyone who is near a phone will now be able to simply press that button, without even picking up the handset, to reach MCC police/public safety. The button will is now labeled EMERGENCY. This change was made to all MCC phones so that anyone with access to a phone will be able to quickly call for help.

We are working to resolve technical problems with the MCC Notify Me texting service

It is clear that there is a technical glitch with our new MCC Notify Me text messaging sign-up service.

Some have been able to successfully sign-up while others have not. We are looking into the technical issues and will address them as soon as possible

If you need to log into your computer this morning and can't get the text messaging system to work, please opt out for now.

We will obviously need to give everyone another opportunity to sign-up as soon as possible. It is critical that we get this system to work correctly.

I apologize for this inconvenience. We will keep you informed as we get additional information.
