The staff and faculty book discussion group recently formed by the MCC-Blue River library has been filling up with founding members. There are still about a dozen copies left in the library of The Secret Life of Bees and enough reading time to prepare yourself for the first meeting for anyone who is interested in joining. If the book club membership grows any more, an additional Wednesday group will be formed.
MCC-Blue River librarian Susanne Boatright says, “Our first read will be the best-selling novel The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. The novel was later made into a movie starring Dakota
Fanning, Queen Latifah and Jennifer Hudson.
MCC-Blue River librarian Susanne Boatright says of The Secret Life of Bees, “This is the tale of Lily Owens, a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father, Lily flees with Rosaleen, her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters, Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping.
“We will have copies available here at the library for you to check out. The discussion will be held on Thursday, April 7 at 2:00 PM in CC128. If there is enough interest we may have a discussion on Wednesday, April 6 at 2:00 PM as well. And - cookies will be provided! Can’t talk about books without food.”
Go to the MCC-Blue River library to join the faculty and staff book discussion group.
