For five years, the Metropolitan Chorale of Kansas City has partnered with Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity (THHFH)to raise funds to place underprivileged people into affordable housing. At the 9^th Annual American Dream Gala on August 20, 2011, The Metropolitan Chorale of Kansas City (MCC-Blue River’s choir) was presented with the “American Dreammaker Award” for helping THHFH  promote their mission in Eastern Jackson County and beyond.

The first HardHats for Habitat Concert was held in March of 2007 and for five years, including April 2011, the concert has been performed at Woods Chapel Church under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Johnson and Artistic Director Sarah Tyrrell. In that time, the chorale has raised over $22,000.00 for THHFH, and this year’s concert raised an unprecedented amount for the organization. Donations already coming in for Spofford Home

Throughout June MCC is collecting donations for Spofford Home, an organization that cares for kids who have no homes and kids who suffer from mental illness. The month has just begun, and donations are already trickling in. Thus far, we have collected several boxes of crayons and $50 in gift cards to help buy school uniforms. MCC-Blue River is the destination campus for back-to-school supplies for these children.

Goals surpassed for AIDSWalk

More than 100 MCC students, faculty and staff took part in the 23rd annual AIDSWalk Kansas City on Saturday, marking the seventh year Team MCC has participated in the city-wide event.

The team raised $6,560, surpassing their fundraising goal by more than $1,500. Money from AIDSWalk Kansas City supports people living with AIDS in Kansas City. The three-mile walk, held at Theis Park in Kansas City, Mo., raised a total of $209,000. Organizers estimate 3,500 walkers participated.

Stars shine brightly at MCC gala

More than 425 people attended MCC's second annual Five Star Gala on Thursday, raising tens of thousands of dollars for scholarships, academic coaching, emergency book funds and special projects.

GSA Drag Show benefiting AIDS Walk KC TONIGHT @ MCC-Longview

The MCC-Longview Gay Straight Alliance will be hosting a drag show to benefit AIDSWalk Kansas City, TONIGHT!

The show will be at 8 p.m. in the Mel Aytes Education Center. Suggested donation of $3 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit AIDS walk, which supports local organizations who assist folks living with HIV in Kansas City.

The Student Ambassadors at MCC-Penn Valley were a welcome sight for anyone with sweet tooth recently. The group hosted their annual bake sale with proceeds benefitting Haitian relief.

MCC-Longview FUN-raiser scores big for Drumm Farm

Organizers for the first MCC-Longview FUN-Raiser for Drumm Farm said they raised more than $200 through their flag football tournament.

The event, sponsored by the admissions department and the student ambassadors raised money for foster kids at Drumm Farm. Students were invited to register a team for the football tournament held on the Longview Lawn just outside the Cultural Arts Center.

We need your help! Pass this along to your students to let them know about this great event. Also, come out and support the teams and this great cause. This event is being sponsored by the MCC-Longview Student Ambassadors and will benefit the foster families living in the Drumm Farm Community in Independence, MO.

Donations are being accepted by all, even if you’re not playing, and can be made at any of the booths or in Admissions.

Join the Monarchs softball team for 100 innings of softball!

Yes, you read that correctly. The MCC-Maple Woods softball team is participating in a 100-INNING game on Oct. 9, 2010. The event, which is a fundraiser for the team, will be held at Happy Rock Park and different innings will feature different players, rules and styles of play.

Feel like dusting off the old softball glove and showing your skills? The team is welcoming challengers from MCC as well as the community to take on the team in one or more innings. Sponsors are also needed for individual players - if you would like more information on sponsorship, contact head coach Kerry Casper for details.

Funds raised from this event, which the team hopes to make an annual event, will be used for travel expenses, equipment, tournament entries, uniforms and other necessities.
