Transfer advisors on campus weekly this summer at MCC-Blue River

MCC-Blue River has been working to create more opportunities for students to transfer to universities; transfer advisors from the University of Central Missouri and Graceland University will be on campus each week this summer to help students create a path from MCC-Blue River to a four-year or graduate degree. Having transfer advisors on campus allows students to find help for planning their transfer early.

Former Monarch Nathan Ramler commits to Missouri Western

Nathan Ramler, one of the Monarchs' best offensive players this spring season, will be continuing his career at Missouri Western State University. Ramler led the Monarchs in several offensive categories after spending his first year injured.

Former Monarch to play Soccer for SIUE

MCC-Maple Woods student athlete Ricky Nwanguzo will be lacing up his soccer cleats at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville next year. Ricky is one of the many athletes who will be transferring to four-year institutions to continue their education and athletic careers.

MCC-Penn Valley celebrates National TRIO Day

College is a challenging time for students as they work to achieve their goals and improve their lives. The experience can be especially difficult for students who are the first in their families to attend college.

Project Success at MCC-Penn Valley is a Student Support Services TRIO program whose services include: tutoring, counseling, transfer assistance and cultural assistance. Project Success, run by Toni Alexander, is open to low-income, first-generation or disabled college students, and is designed to increase retention and graduation rates as well as assist with transferring to four year colleges.

The program recently participated in National TRIO Day by hosting a breakfast that featured a panel discussion on "Retention, Graduation, Transfer: Student Support Services TRIO's Role in All of It." English Instructor Lisa Spaulding served as moderator. Student panelists included: Vera Campbell-Adams, Stephanie Carrillo, Dianna Izaula, Darryl Norton, Rachel Pulluaim and JuJuan Turner.

National TRIO Day is a day of celebration, reflection and action around increased access to higher education for disadvantaged students.

"In many communities throughout America, the TRIO Programs are the only programs that help low-income Americans to enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America's economic and social life," Arnold Mitchem, president of the Council for Opportunity in Education.

MCC-Maple Woods students learn the ABC's of college transfers

More than 40 4-year colleges and universities were on-hand to help MCC-Maple Woods students with any questions they might have about transferring. Advisers, counselors and reps were available to answer questions, hand out materials and help students get a handle on the transfer process.In addition to the colleges and universities, reps from Cerner were on-site to talk to students and take resumes for their internship program. Cerner sponsors a part-time paid internship program for students seeing business-related degrees, such as business administration, finance, economics, or accounting.

It's Transfer Week at MCC-Maple Woods - do you know what to do?

A variety of events are planned for the week of Feb. 7-11 designed to help students get through the transfer process, if they're ready, or begin the process if they still have a semester or more to go.

A transfer workshop hosted in the Campus Life and Leadership office addressed student questions: counselor Terrell Tigner and graduation advisor Denise Westrem were on hand to tell students how to begin the transition to a four-year institution.

A Transfer Fair with representatives from several area colleges and universities is scheduled from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Feb. 10 to assist current students looking for the next step in their education, while and A+ Transition Workshop will take place Feb. 8 from 6-8 to help prospective students learn about their A+ benefits and how to apply them to MCC-Maple Woods or any other two-year school.

Although not officially a part of Transfer Week, financial aid is always a major concern, so MCC-Maple Woods will host a FAFSA Frenzy workshop from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Campus Center.

MCC-Blue River asks..."Are you ready for a throw down?"

MCC-Blue River is hosting the second annual Transfer Trivia Throwdown. This event is a competition for Blue River student groups, clubs and organizations to prove what they know; learn a bit more and win some cold, hard cash for their organizational cause!

Up to five student groups will participate. Their challenge is to correctly answer a series of questions about transferring to four year schools. Mark your calendar for:

MCC-Blue River kicks off fall transfer days with Park University

MCC-Blue River will host several four-year schools on campus to promote their institutions and talk to students who may be interested in transferring. The first transfer day with Park University will be Oct. 6. Please see below for more information.

Who: Park University will have representatives from the following areas on campus to speak with our students: modern languages, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, business, history, and the Student Assistance Center.

MCC-Penn Valley welcomes transfer advisor

MCC-Penn Valley recently welcomed a new transfer advisor. Laura Schneider is based at the campus as part of the Missouri College Advising Corps.

Schneider will help students navigate the process of transferring to four-year colleges and universities including: finding a school that best suits the student's needs, helping to fill out admission and scholarship applications, assisting with filling out and filing the FAFSA, securing financial aid, and taking campus tours.

Throughout the fall semester Laura will also host several seminars on topics such as financial aid and financial literacy.

MCC-Penn Valley's Project Success receives nod for federal funding renewal!

The Project Success staff is all smiles after receiving renewal for program funding from the U.S. Department of Education.

The U.S. Department of Education recently informed MCC-Penn Valley that its Project Success program has been selected for approval to renew funding of $376,223 for one year. The notice also mentioned that it's anticipated that the grant will be for a total of five years.
