See something suspicious? Report it!

The MCC Police Department has taken yet another step to empower students and employees to look out for one another.

The new MCC Tips Hotline allows any student, employee or guest at MCC to report suspicious activity anonymously by phone or online.

The purpose of these new tip-reporting tools, said Domenick Brouillette, associate director of public safety, is to engage the whole MCC community in campus safety by simplifying the process for reporting suspicious behavior or activity.

“Community involvement is the key to a good community oriented policing program,” said Brouillette. “And because we know some people hesitate
to report potentially dangerous situations because they are worried for their own safety, we want to provide a way to safely, anonymously report these things.”

The hotline and online reporting tool are confidential and anonymous, though both include an option for providing contact information if the person reporting the tip would like an MCC police officer to follow up with him or her.

Call it in: To phone in an anonymous tip, dial 816.604.ATIP and leave a detailed voicemail. The voicemail box is checked frequently by a detective from the MCC Police Department.

Type it in: To submit an anonymous tip online, visit the MCC Alert web page, and click on the “Submit a Tip” button.

The new tips reporting system is the most recent enhancement a series of upgrades to safety at MCC, including establishment of the MCC Alert web site, establishment of the central command office, programming of an emergency button on all MCC Cisco desk phones, upgrades to the MCC Notify Me text message system, and the change-over from an unarmed public safety department to a commissioned police department.

Watch for additional information soon about other security enhancements currently underway.
