This fall, each MCC student will be allowed to print 200 black and white, single-sided pages at no cost. Once the 200-page allocation has been used, students may purchase additional pages for 10 cents per page using a credit card at the computer, through the library (cash only) or other authorized ‘Code Card’ sellers.
MCC’s tuition has remained $82 per credit hour for two years. To curb costs without raising tuition, unlimited student printing was eliminated. This suggestion originated from last year’s Budget Response Committee.
An additional bonus is this encourages students to print less, therefore using less paper and ink, contributing to a greener environment.

It seems a little unfair that a student taking 15 credit hours has the same printing limit as a person taking 1 credit hour.
ReplyDeleteThis is certainly a valid consideration and was evaluated as part of the discussion on ways to continue providing printing services for students while controlling escalating costs. The resources required to implement and manage printing allowances based upon student credit load was not manageable. The most equitable alternative was to establish a single, reasonable allowance that will meet the needs of the greatest number of students.
ReplyDeleteWill the balance carry over semester to semester? Does it start over every semseter?
ReplyDeleteAny unused balance from the 200 page allocation does not carry over across semesters (i.e. at the beginning of each semester, the allocation is reset to 200 pages). However, if a student has purchased additional pages beyond the initial MCC provided allocation, any unused pages from that purchase will carry over.
