MCC-Penn Valley student accepted to Teen Vogue Fashion University

Apparel and Textiles instructor Sheryl Farnan congratulates student Kelsie Shorley on being selected for Teen Vogue Fashion University.

For the third year, MCC-Penn Valley Apparel and Textiles Student Kelsie Shorley has been selected to participate in a prestigious fashion event. Shorley is one of 1,000 fashion students selected from design schools across the country to visit New York on Oct. 22-24 for the Teen Vogue Fashion University, an annual event hosted by Vogue.

The weekend features fashion celebrities and designers’ presentations, workshops, and networking events - all focused on helping students get the inside track into a career in design, fashion journalism or retail merchandising.

Featured speakers include Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue; Jason Wu, designer of Michelle Obama’s Inaugural gown; Zac Posen, designer; and Jenna Lyons, Creative Director for J. Crew.

Attendees will also enjoy a power shopping trip to H&M and Juicy Couture.

According to Vogue, thousands of students apply each year and are selected based on several criteria, including an essay about career aspirations in fashion.
