MCC-Maple Woods Vet Tech students reunite lost pet with owners

The MCC-Maple Woods Veterinary Technology program finds new homes for many animals from local shelters every semester, but in one very special circumstance, the students were able to reunite a lost pet and her owners.

The Liberty animal shelter frequently provides unclaimed animals to the vet tech program each semester - students care for them, socialize them, and perform basic vet services like vaccinations, teeth cleaning and sometimes necessary medical procedures before adopting the animals out for free. While scanning for a microchip on a new arrival, a cat named Cymone, the students actually found one and contacted the person registered on the tiny implant.

Cymone, whose real name is Mona, jumped off her family's balcony and dashed away before anyone could catch her. The family had been posting flyers and placing ads in local papers and even installing critter cams to try and find Mona, who had been missing since March. She was picked up by her very happy family at the vet tech facility earlier this week.
