Rewards for Marriott

Like the hotel chain that bears her name, Patti Marriott is known for great hospitality.

“She’s the kind of person who just makes things happen,” said one colleague. “She is unassuming and treats all people with respect and cordiality.”

Her cordiality and hospitality are what earned Patti the honor of May employee of the month for the Administrative Center. Patti is known around the AC for being kind and committed to her work.

“She is not loud or pushy, just goes about her job of advancing the MCC mission every day,” said her nominator.

Patti is a MetroSoft system manager, which means
she works with various MCC departments on implementing new technology and processes to create efficiencies. Her projects, which sometimes involve MetroSoft and sometimes do not, usually span multiple departments and are broader in scope or complexity than what a specific department is able to handle on its own. For instance, last year she helped manage the roll-out of MCC’s online benefit enrollment. Currently, she is working on a project to launch an online vendor application process.

Patti, who has been at MCC for 11 years, was originally hired as a contract trainer at MCC-Business & Technology and then transferred to her current role in 2003. Prior to joining MCC, she worked at Honeywell for 11 years where she held various positions, including analyst, buyer and trainer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business, an MBA, an instructional design certification and an ISO auditor certification.

She says she enjoys her job because she gets to learn new things every day.

“Since part of my job involves troubleshooting and also rolling out new applications in MetroSoft, it’s never a dull moment,” Patti said.

She also enjoys getting to work with various groups around the district and she feels good about being part of an organization that’s serving the community.

“Our college impacts so many people’s lives by giving them an opportunity to not only further their careers, but we also have a big community education program that promotes life-long learning,” Patti said.

When she’s not at work, Patti likes to play softball, volleyball and basketball and she enjoys spending time with her husband at the lake during the summer.
